From friends to lovers, that’s the story behind one of TV’s most beloved couples.

Singer Jake Miller drew inspiration from the TV show “Friends" for his new song about two people who started off as pals before becoming a bit more.

When talking about his inspiration for the track, the 27-year-old told PEOPLE that Ross and Rachel were his favorite couple.

"Ross was in love with Rachel way before she even knew it, and he waited years for her to even notice," he said. "True love is worth the wait and that's what I wrote this song about."

The lyrics make reference to the “Friends” episode where Ross tells Rachel: "It's always been you Rach."

“I lived right down the hall," he calls back to the sitcom in the song before going into the chorus. Sadly, he doesn't mention that they were "on a break."

When he gets to the chorus, Miller croons about how the uncertainty was worth the wait: "Thank God that I waited 'cause my love never faded. I just needed patience. It was always you."

"[It's] about being in a relationship that progresses over time. Starting out as friends, and one day turning into a deep love," he elaborated to the publication. "We wanted the song to have the same nostalgic feel as "Friends." "Friends" has always been one of my favorite shows, and Ross and Rachel have always been my favorite TV couple."

Miller revealed on his Instagram story that “ROSS AND RACHEL” is a sequel to his track “WAIT FOR YOU,” which premiered on his 2019 EP “BASED ON A TRUE STORY.”

The artwork for the song features a television with "ROSS AND RACHEL" stylized in the "Friends" font.

He even went as far as tagging David Schwimmer (Ross) and Jennifer Aniston on Instagram with the caption, “I wrote a song about you guys.”

Miller’s song is filling a void left behind by the “Friends” reunion special that has been postponed indefinitely due to COVID-19.
