JAY-Z ventures into cannabis market with new 'MONOGRAM' company

Hova's latest business venture is sure to rake in the green

October 23, 2020

JAY-Z hopes to spark profits from the emerging cannabis retail market, announcing the debut of his company, MONOGRAM.

The “Big Pimpin’” singer says his new cannabis line will provide a “more tailored customer experience,” and will be accessible to customers with a “best in class e-commerce platform dedicated exclusively to its singular product line.”

As MONOGRAM’s chief brand strategist, JAY-Z helped design a website that engenders customers with videos and educational graphics communicating three core principals about the product; grown right, small batch and hand finished cannabis products.

Their messaging campaign continued with various Twitter posts promoting the company’s core principles:

Jay’s involvement in the company started last July when California-based Caliva indicated the rapper’s crucial role in driving creative direction, outreach efforts and strategy. Those efforts included proactive messaging for social justice issues surrounding the legalization of marijuana. “Anything I do, I want to do correctly and at the highest level,” JAY-Z said in a statement.

“With all the potential in the cannabis industry, Caliva’s expertise and ethos make them the best partners for this endeavor. We want to create something amazing, have fun in the process, do good and bring people along the way.”

Still no word on when the company will present their product to the market. As of 2020, only 11 states (Washington, Oregon, California, Alaska, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, Vermont, Massachusetts, Maine) have legalized the retail sale of marijuana to persons 21 years or older. Most of those states have also decriminalized use of cannabis.
