Sean Mack's movie review: "IT: Chapter 2"

We all float down here!

September 6, 2019

Last night, I got to check out the long-awaited follow up to Stephen King's "IT".  "IT: Chapter 2" picks up 27 years after the last movie ended, following a group of kids known as "the losers" as they return to their hometown of Derry to try and kill the evil clown, Pennywise.

So how was it?  (small spoilers ahead)

I really liked it.  The first thing that is so striking is how well the adult versions of "the losers" are cast.  They all look eerily similar to their child actor counterparts, it's really uncanny.  Plus, all the characters are really great, you get invested in all their stories.  As for the scares, you will definitely get them.  Clowns don't scare me, but there are things in this movie that are pure nightmare fuel.  Let's just say that Pennywise gets very creative when it comes to his methods of scaring people.  But it's not all frights: as it was with the first film, there are a lot of laughs as well.  Bill Hader is really the standout and is hilarious.  My only complaints are that the movie runs a little long(almost three hours) and the ending is...a little odd.  Still, I had a great time.

"It: Chapter 2" gets 4 red balloons out of five.
