Sean Mack's Movie Review: "Jojo Rabbit"

Another Oscar contender!

December 12, 2019

Movie awards season is here!  Most of the time, you expect very serious films to dominate the discussion.  However, every once in a while a more comedic-leaning film can make an impression to voters.  One example this year is “Jojo Rabbit”.

At first glance, you’re probably wondering…”um, a comedy?  About Hitler and the Nazis?”  Believe it or not, yes!  The film follows a young boy as he dreams of joining Hitler’s army and even has Adolph as his imaginary best friend.  However, he soon realizes how naïve his views are when he discovers a young Jewish girl living in his attic.

“Jojo Rabbit” reminds me a lot of a Wes Anderson movie, “Moonrise Kingdom” in particular.  It features some beautiful cinematography and that dark, dry humor.  The movie has a lot of heart and is charming from start to finish.  You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, the whole deal.  I can see why this movie is considered a strong Oscar contender.  Highly recommended!
